PDF to TXT: How to Extract Text from a PDF and Use It
Text in a PDF is not stored the way it is in Word: a page is layers of objects, so copying text does not always work. Converting PDF to TXT extracts the document text layer and saves it as a plain text file you can edit, search and use in any application.
How to extract text from a PDF
- Upload a PDF file
- Click "Process" — the text is extracted automatically
- Download the resulting TXT file
The text version is perfect for quoting, searching within a document, machine processing, publishing on a website and making notes.
Where PDF to TXT helps
- Summary: save the document text and use AI services for annotations
- Quoting: exact phrases from articles and manuals
- Search: full-text search across all documents
- Publishing: place text in blogs and websites
Important note
PDF to TXT works with files that have a text layer — digital documents and exports from editors. Scanned documents contain no text, so they require OCR (recognition), which this tool does not perform.
